I'm going to delete my tumblr today. I've been tumblr free for months now, and I really feel much better for it. No more rape dreams, for a start. I'm still tracking tumblr through twitter, and occasionally remembering to check the other blogs I used to follow, but mostly I've moved over to pinterest now. Even the site layout suits me better - no more dark, linear, oppressive tumblr; nice light, tiled, unobtrusive pinterest.
Though I do miss the pornier stuff! Pinterest being so open means you just don't get so much of it, and it doesn't seem so fandom heavy in general (though maybe I haven't found the right boards to follow yet). It's better at attribution (Images auto-link to their sources, possibly because people kept threatening to sue if Pinterest didn't get better at it). I don't know what happens if the original source is deleted, though. I suspect the images on pinterest remain, which is a bit dodgy. No gifs, which I'm undecided about it; they never loaded properly on my phone, so it wasn't like I understood half the posts on tumblr anyway. No text posts, either, which put me off originally but is one of the draws now.
Pinterest allows commenting, but I've not seen it used for conversation. Tumblr's reblogging was a sort of awkward halfway house on that front - it was more sort of an onward chain of commentary, but you did get a lot of conversations and it clogged up the feed something rotten. Of course, there was no easy way to correct stuff, either; misinformation would get 100000 reblogs while the correct would get barely any, and usually not the same people. Only once did I see a correct cross my dash that I'd seen the original post for, and frankly, I was suspicious the correction itself was more misinformation. The weird trend of vicarious pseudicides bothered me - taking someone else's post and photo and claiming they'd committed suicide from bullying when they were not only absolutely fine but had no idea this rumour was being passed round about them.
Oh, whoops. It's been long enough I can't remember my tumblr password any more. Hmmm. Might come back to this later.
