The pre-Christmas post
2/12/08 07:08 pmI am in such a wintry mood at the moment, and I'm really looking forwards to Christmas. I may make mince pies later.
Or a wintry icon. We'll see.
(ETA: See?)
I have only smidgens of Christmas presents left to buy (grandmothers - and though it's over a year since Grandad Peter died now it's only just occured to me that grandparents now means the same), and instead of cards I'm going to do biscuits this year, provided I can get a Christmas tree cookie cutter. I have bought icing tubes and silver balls! I've really enjoyed Christmas shopping this year, and I think I've managed to get some very good gifts. I'm now just filling up, since I always feel guilty at Christmas because Harry buys lots of little things, so when we're opening things he always finishes way before the rest of us. I'm more of a quality over quantity person, but I'm going to try and do for him what he does for us so he won't feel left out.
I also spent £70 on party dresses in M&S today. One I justified on the basis I'd intended to buy it months ago, but it wasn't in stock, and the other because I lack a little black dress, and I have until February to change my mind about it! There was 20% off, so I saved a bit anyway. Now all I need is some parties to go to!
Obviously, all the snow is helping, and the fact that last Christmas took place in hospital is definitely making it feel like it's about time this one happened. Mum's just informed me she is making a Christmas cake (she was just going to do a chocolate one), and we're going to the Weald and Downland museum on boxing day, which was one of the things I was really looking forwards to last year. We're going to visit Gran at the home rather than have her come visit, which is far less stressful, and we might have Aunty Amy over, who is ninety something, completely with it, and a bit lonely since she can't leave her own house any more. My granfather's side of the family is filled with wonderfully tall and longlived women, which is the side I'm kinda hoping to inherit from right now.
St Nick's fayre was last weekend, and I managed to slip in before the crowds reached their usual insane levels. Picked up some pictures for parents' siblings (is that easier than saying aunts and uncles?) by this guy. They're just stunning. I'm ordering a couple of his calendars.
As well as looking at prety pictures, I'm also reading
apiphile's Pass the Parcel. You should too.
I phoned mum to find out what she meant by leaving a message on my phone about a free car. Turns out my sister has been offered one since her car is a write-off (someone ran a red light at a box junction and bent her wheel arch). And Harry apparently rolled his van last weekend, writing it off - having come round a blind bend to find a queue of cars at some temporary road works, swerved, skidded, and hit a bank - so he's using mum's car for work, and has filled it to the brim with tools. Mum's knee is in need of an operation, so long walks are out, and she needs to do some Christmas shopping. So she wants Clo to take advantage of the free car (the reason she hasn't already is because she was originally told she'd have to rent it and claim it back, which she can't afford to do, but now the other guy has taken full responsiblity for the accident apparently she doesn't have to) so she can go shopping.
I am so very glad I can't drive, you know? It's so much cheaper.
