22/7/07 09:22 amI should probably say something about Deathly Harows. Spoilers behind cut.
The book actually justified the length, for the most part, which was good. Dumbledore exposition towards the end grated, though. And the fact that Lupin and Tonk just managed to have a kid before they died. Who, from the epilogue, wasn't brought up by Harry, by the sounds of it.
Epilogue ouch, I'm afraid. Did Ginny get no say in the naming of the kids? Painful names. And not a Fred in sight!
Can't help it, but I'm glad Draco Malfoy survived, and was just a coward, rather than evil. For the first time in ages, I'm wanting to write for for HP again, though I really ought to finish the one I started first (though C&S gets finishd before that, and you wouldn't believe that I have 90% completed the last chapter of that, would you?).
Yeah, enjoyed it. Mostly fitting end. 4/5? Something like.
The thing that muses me most, in the end, is that there are people in the UK who finished the book before people in the US could even buy it. Timezones are fun!
ultharkitty has leant me Sims2, which is going to chew up some time before I start work. And I have the new Scott Lynch book to bury myself in. And the Emma peel boxset on its way. Just as well I plowed through HP, isn't it?

Date: 22/7/07 03:20 pm (UTC)The one thing that keeps annoying me, though, is how they talk about how perfect and great and unusual the Invisibility Cloak is - when both Dumbledore and Mad-Eye could see through it. (That should at least prove that the fairy tale about the items was made-up, since the first owner according to the story used it to hide from Death.)
... I think the epilogue could have, sort of, not existed. :-\ But I'm not a fan of empty "and then they totally lived happily ever after"-scenes. I'd like an open ending about relationships and whatnot.
But the book was good and has eaten most of my weekend. And I can't be spoiled any more. :D

Date: 24/7/07 10:12 am (UTC)I was just thinking that about the names. I mean, Albus? Who the fuck would do that to a kid? Granted, this comes from someone who's been a hat for 17 years so I'm a bit sensitive.
When do you has be on MSN mores so I may talks you to death??? (been reading macros all night, hence teh lolcat speech)

Date: 24/7/07 01:00 pm (UTC)I didn't know you were reading C&S. The last chapter really is nearly done, but since it's the last chapter, I want to go through it a few times before I actually post. Also, doing so means I get to ut of the editting the fic for geography and britishisms a bit longer.
I seem to have three windows messenger type programs at the moment, so I'm trying to figure out which one turns on when. Sorry I'm not logged in properly more often!

Date: 24/7/07 01:18 pm (UTC)Yah I reads C&S! That was why I looked you up in the first place, back in my "If I poke this writer enough, maybe she will explode! And I will get her mad skillz!" phase.
