17/9/06 12:50 pmI have given up on essay without beginning today, because it is a shite essay. No flow, horrible sentences, nothing to support it, doesn't challenge much, keeps wandeirng off the point... So I'm ignoring it. Rumour has it this isn't a wise choice, but I figure maybe today I might do something I enjoy, like writing.
Well, later, anyway. For now, I'm doing mum's mail merge. She hasn't left any gaps in the letter for the fields, the excel file managed to use every single row thanks to dragging downoptions like 'Mrs' and 'Infant school' (only twice every ten lines, though). My laptop did not take kindly to this. I finally get it sorted, and Word crashes thanks to way too much data, and now Excel is throwing hissy fits and opening when i want it to close and so on.
I'm not going to sit and have a go about how she should have known otherwise, because there's no reason she should have. I'm the one that did mailmerges. A few instructions wouldn't have gone amiss, though, and an up-to-date letter to merge with. And not filling up the excel file. No wonder she couldn't get it to work on her computer, which is old and decrepid and has, again, had to have everything entirely reinstalled from scratch. And still has AOL on it. I blame AOl for eeverything.
Oh, and since I had my essay open as well, Word's now panicking about reopening and won't do it. Le Sigh. It's now refusing to open the mailshot letter, and keeps crashing.
Chocolate and writing soon, I promise me. And maybe some magazine, so I don't feel too unproductive.
