You know, I was convinced this was an April Fool when I first heard it. It's a bit scary that it's not. I can never remember which was round it is, but surely MI5 or MI6 covers FBI-esque duties? That's a lot of tax-payers' money.

We have people coming to fix the tiles soon, (as in, meant to be ten minutes ago, of course). I figure I'll read Trainspotting until they're gone, and...

They just arrived. It's the landlady's wife and mother! Am i strange to think that's sweet?

MI5 / MI6 as-was (they are now, I believe, just known as the "Secret Service" - there's been some kind of merger) are external security services - more like the CIA.

That said, the whole idea of 'justice' is that one doesn't give power to either victims or criminals, but one has a fair 3rd party to adjudicate the matter.

Since there's no mention of an increase in taxes in the article and the thingy's been running for a year already without any tax increases, I wouldn't worry about it too much. If taxes start increasing, yeah I'd start worrying then, but otherwise it looks (on the surface, at least) like we're safe.

Yeah, but the same money could go on the health service, or public transport, or schools, or... I don't mind paying more tax (espcially since I don't think I'm paying any yet ^_^ ) as long as it's well spent.

And landlord, yes :P I keep thinking of her as the landlady, but I'm not sure if she actually is. Very nice woman, though.

That's true, but if we have enough of the kind of crime they deal with to warrant the creation of such a body then I'd kinda like it if they hung around. Less money to health service and education = not a good thing, but having a fair bit of organised crime is also not exactly desirable. But yeah. Less money to other areas that need it, I see your point. :/
