58. This is not of the good. But not as bad as I'd thought until a few seconds ago. Apparently it's a lower second, not a fail/thrid as I'd thought. But still, I'm not too happy with this. Plus, because the universe is in just that kind of mood, I'm going to have to change my work day again thanks to my seminar next term. I'm more than half tempted to try and change my seminar group, if truth be told. I don't want to quit work because it's becomming increasingly apparent that I need the money.

This, all in all, is not a good start to the day. It'll probably get better, but I reserve the right to be grumpy now. Especially when my menu bar has for no apparent reason turned itself into the 98 style, instead of the usual one.

Chaning seminar groups is not difficult - I'm quite happy to swap with you if need be. And as far as results are concerned, the only way is up! Hayley was telling me last night that she was devestated when she got 60's, 62's etc. at the start of her Art History course but by the end of the second year she was getting 68's and 69's. The only person who's happy with his results seems to be Toast, and even he (hushed whispers) didn't get a first on his essays! (Don't tell him I said that!!!)

I got a 58 for my Hegel module at the start of my second year, but after that kick up the backside my marks were never that bad again. What zombie thing said - the only way is up!

*big hugs*

I hope the person who marked that essay gave you the right kind of feedback so that you know where to go from there to get up the grades you want. You write beautifully, and a lot of your creative stuff that I've heard or read is either approaching or already at a publishable standard. I hope things look up from here on, you're due for some good karma (especially after averting my panic this morning, you rock) :)

I just barely managed a 60 apparently. Although considering the minimal amount of effort I put in, its actually quite surprising. I mean for a first assessed module its not so bad. Then again I am teh stupid so its generally amazing they havent kicked me out of uni yet.

58 for me as well. I'm not overly happy with it as I did really, really well in the oral component and actually enjoyed writing those essays, and one of them I was told was "a successful essay". It seems the essays I struggle with for days on end are the ones that they like most :P

It's really hard to tell how you're actually doing without some kind of grade, isn't it? I don't mind not getting an exact mark on a procedural, but I'd like to be told "this is a low xxx" etc. The comments I'd been left on the previous essays had left me with the impression I'd done quite well. Grr at the universitys policy of no grades. Grr, I say!

Argh, yes. John was like 'these are very strong essays' and ok, a 2:1 is nothing to complain at, but I want a first, so being told 'these are strong 2:1s' would have motivated me to do far more to them.

I complained about it to my supervisor. She says it's a flawed policy as well.

Wahhh ... 58 is a 2:2 and a high 2:2 at that

Don't diss the 2:2 ...

But 50 is a low 2:2/high 3 (according to an email the department sent out a while back), which was my other mark. Together they fight crime make a fairly low 2:2. Which is still much better than I thought it was (I guess I'm still thinking in terms of A level and GCSE makring systems, where below 60 yu're in seriously dodgy territory) but not where I expected to be.
