that's now my knew 'you have rendered me incoherent' noise. I just like the way it sounds. Nerdymeh.
So, saw Sophie, had huge, lunch, saw I,Robot, got home and saw absence of car when I had twenty minutes before I had to leave for work again, made it to work and spent four very boring hours there. Very boring, and I spent most of it with a sore throat, which has gone now. But I have bought Interview with a Vampire and Knowledge of Angels, though no boots as yet. I'm beginning to think of asking them to hold some as soon as they come in or something.
Nothing like the books, except for the names and the three laws. It's like people complaining about AUs and OOC fanfiction, but if something OOC and AU was this good I don't think many people would bother complain.
However, since it's easier to crticise than compliment, I'll throw in a few things. Set way to close in the future. The cars loook right for thirty years from now, but no way do the robots. I don't care what they say about AI in fifty years, the robots are too snazy for that soon. Plus, since they kept the whole positronic brain thing, they're working off a technology we don't have at all.
The product placement gets irritating, especially the shoes. They seem to have found a way of working them into every scene. "Nice shoes, Spooner." "I love my new shoes, 2004 vintage." "Well i don't know what you kids are wearing today, but I can't see why you spent so much on a pair of shoes."
If you've read the books, you work it out way for Will SMith. If you haven't, like my friend Sophie, it gets a bit confusing towards the end. It's not the plot, it's just getting used to the Robot logic. If you've read the books you know how it works, if you haven't it doesn't really make sense.
Of the things that I loved, the logic was actually one, because that is very Asimov. Plus, being able to see the robot's gears move inside it's head. The action was great, and the characters were fun. Lots of cheesy lines, especially from the robots. Will Smith looks like he's having fun. Great special effects all round, really, and nothing too jarring.
Thing I loved most was the trailer for Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow though. Looks brilliant. All this cheesy black nad white war film backgrounds and characters, and then giant futuristic planes. Plus the evil guy is played by someone who died in 1989. Apparantly it was shot entirely against blue screen, and I think it might be DC comic based. It just looks like brillaint fun really ^_^
