12/5/04 08:49 pmHow many people on my Flist read Star Wars EU novels, in particular NJO?
None?
I was going to post a fic, but thinking about it I really actually can't be arsed. No one's interested. Even at teh Pit of Voles, few are interested. For some inane reason people prefer the Prequel Trilogy. I'm not even that fussed about teh originals, but the prequels? I don't care how fit Ewan McGregor is, so far they've all been really quite shit.
I'm in a minorly bad mood night. See previous post for rambling explanation. Also, lack of sleep. What with this whole sun coming up and sun going down and people staying up to perfectly reasonable hours, I've not been getting a great deal of sleep. And my alarm clock has yet to go off at teh set time this week, thogh it's happy going off two hours later. Clock time correc, alarm time correct, alarm? Incorrect!
I'm doing paid work now, but having already been paid incentive is slipping. Basically I'm typing up someone else's spreadsheet. Phone numbers are teh worst, because it's so hard to check if they're right. I can tell that Falmout was meant to be Falmouth, but whether it's 01993 or 01933 I've got no idea at a quick glance.
Geh, Chloe will come and boot me off in five minutes, if she remembers. Then i can either do more typing up of spreadsheet on a different computer, or take a long bath and read. By long I mean half an hour instead of fifteen minutes. I can't understand how people like my mother can spend three hours and more in the bath. Water gets cold and grimy, cramped, boring... If I want to read, I'll put on the nice warm towel and read leaning up against the radiator in my room.
Geh, i say, Geh!

Date: 13/5/04 12:37 am (UTC)Inane is just the right word. I can't for the life of me understand why they are supposed to be so good... apart from some costumes, that is.
The original is Special for me - but then *cough* i'moldenoughtohaveseenitincinemaswhenitfirstcameout *COUGHcough* and it was maybe the first film that I remember falling in love with... and there's always something special about such things. The first so-and-so. Never really got over it, either... But I agree with you. The prequels are SHIT.

Date: 13/5/04 08:09 am (UTC)I wasn't old enough to asee them at the cinema, but I saw them when they came out on tv and had very confused memories of them for years, before I fuond the books. I only saw Episodes five and six, and thought they were all one film. One without spaceships. And yet I still remembered it!

I agree absolutely. I even prefer a slightly older Harrison Ford - say, HF of the Indiana Jones era.

Date: 13/5/04 01:35 am (UTC)I think I read a few Star Wars novels, though I'm very foggy on titles and authors. The trilogy by Timothy Zahn I think, another trilogy by Kevin J. Anderson, a stand-alone novel by Sondra McIntyre (?)(probably got *that* name wrong. I think the book was called 'The crystal star' or something, about lost Jedi-children), a stand-alone novel called 'Princess' Leia's wedding' (*coughs* Well, I was kinda curious ... ) and another trilogy of which the titles always were things like 'This-and-this at that-and-that planet'. It's been quite a while though. Maybe I should go reread some of them from the library. ^^;
PS Sorry for being a dummy, but what does EU stand for?
Re: Vague recollections
Date: 13/5/04 08:04 am (UTC)(I'm doing this next bit to amuse me mostly, looking at how many authors introduce their own major characters ^_^ ) Timothy Zahn's trilogy would be the one with Mara Jade, Kevin J Anderson's with Kyp Durron, Crystal Star with Callista (I always quite liked it, but everyone else insists it's crap), the Courtship of Princess Leia might be the other one you mean, though they did actually release two versions of her wedding.
If you're looking to reread, Zahn's are probably the best, then Kevin J Anderson's. Look out for the X Wing books as well, those are actually funny. After all that, there's a series called the New Jedi Order, which is quite long and written by a collection of authors. Well loved characters die. Upset some, amused others.
