I feel i ought to be full of Christmas spirit and stuff. But really, i don't see the point in Christmas. I like it, but it's just anohter day. I'm not that religious, and while i really enjoy shopping to buy things for other people I really have no feeling about receiving gifts. The shopping I probably enjoy because I've picked up an association with stress relief after being told I'd got a scholarship I never wanted a few years ago, and Christmas shopping involved just enough thought to keep me distracted without being another cuase for stress.

One year I'm going to get all the presents wraped and posted by, oh, the twentieth, then go and live in a cottage on my own somrewhere Christmas won't easily touch until New Year.

Anyway, that was more of a yesterday feeling. Spent today at cousins. my eldest cousin is worryingly attractive. want to set him up with someone, because those looks in a teenaged boy are very unusual, and my second oldest cousin seems to be catching up fast. Didn't play ponies with Ellie, for once, but watch Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, a film shot when Keanu Reeves was actually attractive.

my sister got me the new Britney Spear's album. pLeased as I am about that, she told all her friends who apparantly are confused and alarmed, because they can't see how i can like their music and Britney Spears. I feel this shouldn't bother me - i don't need her friends's resepct - but it kinda does. One of the reasons I don't like chloe's friends. Still, been reminded today that my sister is a very generous and kind person, so now I have anew year's resolution lined up t be much kinder to her. Oh, and to set up an LJ for her and introduce her to Del, becuase when i mentioned London shopping and meeting Del Chloe decided she really wanted to come too because Del has cool hair. You can't fault that.

Must go shopping. Because it's required, not because I have any actual desire to.

Hey, even if one's not religious (like me, for instance), there's still fun to be had on Christmas. I mean, the whole thing is just Christian stuff that's been imposed on a good old Roman holiday that basically meant eating and drinking and giving presents, and was celebrated exactly at the time Christmas is nowadays. I think it has even older roots still, being a feast to mark the beginning of a new year which with the old folks started around the winter solstice... so, even though I really don't believe in the Christian 'message', there's nothing wrong with feasting to celebrate the fact that days are beginning to get longer again. Oh, and having a few days off to top it all!

Ahem. Getting a bit carried away, I guess...

For some reason celebrations of pretty much all types pass me by. Probably just spoilt by the commercialist, capatalist society we live in. That and I didn't get around to gettng an advent calender this year, so part of me is still living in November ^_^

I love all the old pagan stuff that has leaked into Christianity. Especially green and red at Christmas. not just a Coca-cola thing! The pagans would decorate their houses with evergreen branches to symbolise continuing life and guts from slaughtered animals to symbolise the appareant death all around them. Whee, guts!
