26/11/03 08:40 pmToday the Queen opeend Parliament, nad made a whole bunch of pronouncements. Which included telling the government to give gay couples the same rights as married couples. As Queen, she's aloud to do that, insit on legislature at least being debated, if not passed.
Unfortunately, the suggested bill is full of rather large holes, which makes it look a bit like they're not really trying. No 'next-of-kin' status, adultery and non-consumation do not constitute as divroce grounds... in fact, the word 'amrriage' will be no longer applicable in a strictly legal sense, which of course is going to cause huge uproar (thank you Daily Mail) and, well, I don't think they're too keen on this whole bit of legislator.
But still, very pleased something is going to happen. Go Queen!
