There is a thread, on the Star Wars Books and Comics forum, that is slowly beginning to irritate me more and more. It's a discussion of a character's romantic relationships. It started off as a lot of in depth psychological discussion of the characters in question and some wonderful analysis of relevant passages in the books. Now it's just "Jaina&Jag 4eva. u ppl who think Jaina and Kyp are gud make me sik. he's like way old, and Jaina&Jag wud hav teh best kids!!1!!" Even worse are the one liners, which are just the name of the guy they think jaina should end up with.

Shoot 'em. Shoot 'em all. I have now made several rather snarky posts about the decline in quality of the material being posted. Several of the other people who used to post have backed me up. It's good these people have opinions, but it would be nice if they backed them up. And with something other than offspring or age differences. We managed to decide on page three that both weren't reasonable proof of the quality of the relationship. And we know that in canon she's already been paired up with one guy, but in the current series there's no guarentee he'll survive, and personally I think she and the other character are a much more realistic, and mature, match. But then, I'm argueing with small minded thirteen year olds who don't have the imagination to think outside the canon and lack the intelligence to back up a single one of their arguments.

I don't know why i keep going back to the thread. Force of habit, I suppose, since i got so used to reading pages of analysis and discussion that developed into one of the reasons I took psychology. The stupid thing is this isn't because the thread is too long (almost 150) pages - right up until page 140 there's an honest, if depleted, discussion. No, it's got something to do with disappearing for a few months and being dragged up again by newbies, who can't even be bothered to read the damned thing (okay, that is a length issue, I admit).

I think what bugs me is the fact that several of these people are quite happy to discuss things properly elsewhere. The Force Philosophy thread is miles long, and at no point does it deterioate into this. When someone pointed this out to one of hte posters, he replied:

"I don't know i guess some forums are like highschool. Talking about who's with who and what happened here. You know Drama. But in Force Philosophy it's about the way things really are you know."

The thread didn't use to be like that! Serious discussion. Serious literary analysis. Serious psychoanalysis. Serious debates.

Just to compare: page 11, for a good discussion
Page 41, more discussion
Indepth anlysis, thanks to MostlyMara, page48 and onwards
a more recent page. Would you look at that? It's like a kindergarten shouting match.
Oh look, we have a troller using multiple names. Either that or a whole bunch of idiots

Okay, when hte next book comes out I'm oging to go through it with a fime tooth comb and proove that Kyp and Jaina are supposed to be together. IN hte meantime, I'm going to post those links on the thread, just to make people think a bit. Oh, and go and find some intelligent, non-MS, SW fanfiction, preferably shipping K/J. It is out there, somewhere.

Just to add: Ylesia, an ebook, cost $4 to download. I couldn't find it on Amazon Uk at the time. It was supposed to appear in hte paperback version of one of hte books in hte series. Due to an oversight, it didn't. So now you can download it, in printable format, for free, from sw.com. Bet everyone who paid for the ebook is really pissed about that ^_^ Apparantly, it's pretty dire anyway, since the guy hadn't read half the series when he wrote it, but still, free book!
