Writing for mininano. The point is to write every single day, rather than to a end total, and it doesn't matter what you write or whether its all one project. I pledged a hundred words a day, and since its Bonfire Night tonight, I'm brainvomiting here! Inspired by a the_literatzzi prompt, and one of the rememberance day ads on TV.

The photograph sat on the mantlepiece. It tended to be forgotten when the duster whisked by, it's monotone shades disguised by decades of accumulated grime. It kept the sun from yellowing the glossy paper.

When David picked the frame up he felt the dirt greasy under his fingers, and almost dropped it in disgust. Instead he laid it down again, and stared at the clean smears his fingerprints had left. A series of pips on a shoulder. A badge on a hat. A scar on a cheek.

David fingered the poppy in his buttonhole, blackening its petals with thick dust. He didn't know enough to work out which war the young soldier had fought it, but he had a sudden urge to find out. A pity he hadn't studied the photo while his great aunt still lived, last of her generation.
