I'd forgotten how much I love the chariot race in Ben Hur. And how much of the beginning I hadn't seen (and how much I still haven't seen). Even at three and a half hours, it still feels shorter than a lot of the other films this term, and it's got an intermission. I like films with intermissions. Peter Jackson needs to be introduced to the idea. I ranted a bit too much about king Kong to Rachel (who likes the film), so I shan't again, but like the new Star Wars films, it'd be so much better with a bit of careful editting.

Anyway, the race is brilliant. The peak of the film for me, very much so, especially considering I was writing Romanfic before and after. Despite knowing how it ends, I still find it very tense and dramatic. You see several people getting trampled, which is really hard to watch, especially knowing one of them is actually a real person and died because of it. It;'s either the first or last death to get left in a film, I can't remember which. It grips you.

I really can't be arsed to finish Ben Hur the book, but there's enough difference between it and the film that I might need to. Except I'm blatantly not going to, because it is long and boring and densely written. I may just skim a few relevant looking chapters, and jump to my Sci Fi essays and Maurice.
