I know there are a few Latin scholars on my flist, thought that's not really anexcuse not to translate. Maybe some other time.

Pyrrha

quis multa gracilis te puer in orsa
perfusus liquidis urget odoribus
grato, Pyrrha, sub antro?
cui flavam religas comam

simplex munditiis? heu quotiens fidem
mutatosque deos fledit et aspera
nigris aequora ventis
emirabitur insolens,

qui nunc te fruitur credulus aurea,
qui semper vacuam, semper amabilem
sperat, nescius aurae
fallacis. Miseri, quibus

intemptata nites. me tabula sacer
votiva paries indicat uvida
suspendisse potenti
vestimenta maris deo.

Horace

"quod denique aeger at maestus ac similus excluso a vacuo limine recedo"

Pliny

nec tecum possum vivere nec sine te

Martial

I started packing today. I have more cookbooks than coursebooks. I'm taking seven notepads. It was amost ten, but I restrained myself. I feel I need all seven. Honest. I'm incredibly sleepy. Couldn't fall asleep at first, then my alarm went off at 7, then my mother brought me breakfast about an hour later. Thanks, but I'd rather have had the sleep. Tonight I'm taking some stuff to help me sleep. For now I'll just continue slogging through Tess of the D'Urbervilles in the vain hope I might be done with it before I go. Great book, but it does go on. Far too many notes, really.

Have you ever listened to Nuntii latini, btw?? (and no, I don't read/speak Latin!)

No, I haven't. It sounds interesting. I came up with that lot because I've been digging through old school books, since I might start taking Latin again at Uni. Minor Roman obsession here.

Though the Martial I know: I am not able to live with you, nor to live without you.

I have Virgil in that book too, but he's not so much for the random angsty love. It's the Pliny I like best, though it's actually got latin colloquialisms in, and doesn't translate too easily. I can't remember it all off the top of my head but I ends with "and like a banished lover and leave your empty door." I think.

Well, just in case you're interested, the Finnish Broadcasting Company has been broadcasting news in Latin for the past 10 years or so... you could take a look here (I hope the link works!) to see more.

Yeah, I know... I guess this falls into the category of "all the strange things the Finns do", together with swamp soccer and swimming in winter...
