30/3/04 06:36 pmI am alergic to something I out on myhead. I've yet to figure out what. Probably shampoo, though possibly conditioner, and I keep switching both and it's not going away. Possibly because all our stuff is basically similar. First stress related scalp eczema and asthma, now this. gah.
I have a desire to type up a guide to 'perpetual happiness' at some point. Ironic, because that's basically life coaching, which my mother does, and I can't see the point of. I can't stand the self-help culture. There's something in Bridget Jones two which completely sums it up and I've completely forgotten.
taabnoeko reminded me about ideas for sequel to Bulb. I have no plot for it, but, oops, I've started it anyway. It's going to trun into one of these fics that just sits on my computer, waiting for when the time is right, which, funnily enough, seems to be one of the themes of it. I'm really not good at detective stories. They require entirely too much preparation. You've got to think of a crime and a commiter, then work out how the whole things would happen (as though you were planning to do it yourself), then g back to start somerwhere else entirely and try and cross paths with your plan a few times without it being too obvious, nd somehow have some seven degree or less relationship between detective and committer so it doesn't take them wild guesses to find them. Of course, having a psychic as one of the detectives ought to help...
I'm really not in a finishing mood at the moment. I have to have to have to work on OUAN and even more so on DD (which has been lacking updates for months!). I really ought to add another bit to the unnamed series. I have two fics in progress with the same premise but different plot and setting (nagi turn to girl, one original Weiss series, other post-Gluhen), though the same resultant pairing. And I'm sure I've got some other stuff knocking about too. Maybe I should just call hiatus for a bit until exams and revision are over. I'm not going to write when i ought to revise (who am i kidding?), but perhaps I ought to mention that to people so they don't think I've disappeared.
thinking aobut that, one author who I can not find any recent updates for is Truth. Or rather, I can't find anywhere that lists update dates. This is an author who seems to have never finished a WIP, but they're worth reading anyway. Though she's never quite got the hang of linear writing. It really amuses me. She wrote 'three hour tour', very good Yohji/Omi. Then she seems to have had some plot bunnies left, because she decided to expand it into a series. It comes with a much needed reading order:
Three Hour Tour and Epilogue.
Let the Punishment fit the Crime
Chapters 1 and 2 of A Twisted Game
Chapter 1 of Three Sheets to the Wind
With Friends Like These
Chapter 3 of A Twisted Game
Who Needs Enemies?
Chapter 2 of Three Sheets to the Wind
Chapters 1 and 2 of I Don't Understand
WHile it amuses me, it's also slghtly irritating. Only Three Hour Tour can stand alone. The rest might as well be one fic. And the last two aren't up, so it's unfinished.
I feel I might go find some comic-verse Xmen to read. I prefer comicverse, but my knowledge is still full of gaps. But Xmen fics are generally very good. Huge potential for MarySues, naturally, but also lots of delicious angst.
nangst ^_^ it just sounds nicer. (in-joke with MoT)

Date: 30/3/04 10:33 pm (UTC)As you could tell from my list of where I am on six different fics in the same arc, I'm not personally very into sequential writing, although the fics will read sequentially at the end of it all. I believe in writing down the scene that keeps replaying itself in my head when I'm excited about it (some of that enthusiasm seems to come through into the fic), making myself sit down and write the difficult ones when they're all that's left, and then just editing everything for continuity later. So I *totally* understand the not finishing mood thing....
Mind you, thinking about what you wrote about the prep work, it does sound like a lot of planning and work-type writing. Maybe some inspiration will strike you with an all-encompassing idea or two, and the thing will take off by itself.... I occasionally have moments when I've been thinking about a story for weeks, and suddenly something gels, and the plot writes itself in my head in an hour-- I live for that!

Date: 30/3/04 11:09 pm (UTC)I know what you mean about ideas not coming consecutively - I have fics with three or four scenes in and scraps of 'what goes here' in between, until such time as I feel like writing those bits. It just seems odd to publish something in such an odd order, especially when there really is no need to split them into seperate fics. Why not wait until you're done, then publish it all at once? More time to iron out any continuity kinks that must arise from the order. I actually quite enjoy Truth's tendency to write a fic and decorate it with extras, some relevant to the plot, some AU to her own fic, but it would still be nice if she finished the fic too!
